In this first case study below, Fiona McMahon of Muirhouse Primary School shares how she supported a whole school approach to outdoor learning.
Using school grounds and local greenspace in the Clyde Valley, Fiona and staff team were able to design elements of the curriculum that were best supported by the outdoor learning opportunities to be had conveniently and locally.
Colin Flanigan of Rochsolloch Primary School describes a simple, local outdoor learning opportunity that inspired pupils to further the learning themselves, in the second case study below.
In the third case study, Stewart Currie of Rutherglen High School used a John Muir Award as a tool to raise interest in literacy and numeracy, as well as support pupil reflection about health and wellbeing.
A local walk and lessons with St John's Primary School in the Clyde and Avon Valley makes up the fourth case study. Linked to current topics in the classroom, the class explored local greenspace and discovered new learning.
