The Rural Development Trust’s Community Action Lanarkshire project is delighted to announce that we have been awarded 5 devices from Connecting Scotland to give away, supporting vulnerable people to get online.

Around 800,000 people in Scotland face digital exclusion. The Connecting Scotland programme aims to reduce digital exclusion by providing a device and access to the internet for those on low incomes who are unable to afford the cost of a device and/or broadband. The devices awarded to Community Action Lanarkshire are for digitally excluded residents in the North Lanarkshire communities we work with, including Caldercruix, Greengairs & Wattston, Harthill & Eastfield, Plains and Upperton.

Elaine Richardson, Community Action Lanarkshire Project Officer says, “With so many services moving online, it is important that everyone has an opportunity to engage with their local community and access services. We are supporting these communities to deliver on their local Community Action Plans so are grateful for the opportunity to distribute these devices that will support more people to engage online.”

Community Action Plans can be viewed on our website here  https://www.communityactionlan.org/get-involved/community-action-plans

To be eligible you must be part of a household with children (or are a care leaver aged 26 or under) or you must be an older or disabled person.  Of course, not everyone is familiar on how to set up or use a device which is why we have our own Digital Champion, Lorna Diplacito available to offer support to overcome the barriers to getting online.

Lorna Diplacito, Community Action Lanarkshire Digital Champion said, “When using devices for the first time it can be daunting and it is important to have a friendly contact who has the experience and training to help and support individuals.”

If you, or someone you know, would like to find out more about eligibility please contact Elaine at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. Please note all enquiries are treated in confidence.

Community Action Lanarkshire is a project of the Rural Development Trust and funders include the National Lottery Community Fund.
