Get Up Close To Your Landscape
The Clyde and Avon Valley Landscape Tour
Local people interested in the natural and cultural heritage of where they live are invited to drop in on a village tour taking place over the forthcoming year. The first stops on the tour are Crossford Community Hall on 2nd March and Lanark’s Tolbooth on 16th March, both Saturday mornings from 10am until 1pm.
The tour, led by the Clyde and Avon Valley Landscape Partnership (CAVLP), will visit all villages in the project area to engage local people in protecting, preserving and celebrating this unique and beautiful part of the world. To do this, CAVLP are asking local people to bring something along (e.g. a photo, piece of writing, drawing or artefact) to help build a picture of what’s special to them about their village or local landscape. People will also be able to find out more about local events, learn new skills or volunteer on local projects. Refreshments will be provided along with free hands on activities for children.
Kirsten Robb of the CAVLP commented, “The events are open, so people can feel free to drop in for a chat. We know many people are knowledgeable about their local area and have great stories to tell and we’d love to hear them! People can bring photos (printed out or on memory stick) and we will add them to our exhibition wall on the day. It might be historical photos of village fairs or family days out in the landscape or indeed a favourite walk or tree in the local area.”
The Village Tour will generate ideas for projects to enhance the area and the CAVLP will work with local people to help make them happen over the next three years. These might include local walks leaflets, oral history recordings, and local events, archaeological digs, maintaining local paths or opportunities for volunteers.
