Clearburn Natural Play & Picnic Area, part funded by CAVLP, was awarded one of two ‘Highly Commended’ awards in Scottish Civic Trust My Place Awards 2015. The winner was North Edinburgh Grows, a community garden in Muirhouse, Edinburgh. The awards recognise a building, landscape or public realm project that has had a positive impact in a local neighbourhood and has delivered tangible benefits to that community.

The judges commented that, “The quality of this project is outstanding. The involvement of young people was fabulous and has really informed the design, making this a truly community led resource. The attention to detail, uplifting features and excellence in design and construction make this an exemplar greenspace.”

Jane Masters, Heritage Manager at New Lanark Trust stated, “I’d like to thank everyone who was involved in making this such a fantastic project and please feel free to pass this information onto all volunteers and pupils.”

Information on Clearburn now forms part of the ‘My Place’ Exhibition which is being held in the Lighthouse in Glasgow until 6th May. It is hoped that the exhibition will come to New Lanark later in 2015 so keep your eyes peeled!
