RSPB Barons Haugh Manse Road Motherwell ML1 2PZJoin the lanarkshire Sustrans group on our monthly led cycle ride.
This month the ride will be to Barons Haugh Local Nature Resrve where we will be stopping to view some of the many birds who make there home at the reserve over the winter months. We will hopefully have an experienced bird wathcher with us so we can count the number of different species we see. Binoculars will be provided on the ride.
The ride will be led by experience Ride Leaders and will be almost entirely on traffic free paths. We will meet at usual meeting place of the Watersports Centre at strathclyde Park and then make our way to the Reserve along the Clyde Walkway. Whilst cycling round the reserve we will stop at hides along the way in order to do some bird watching (on a previous visit we also spotted an otter)!
The ride will be 5 miles in total and will consist of an complete circuit of the reserve, returning along the Clyde walkway to Strathclyde Park. The path is mainly dirt track and can be muddy in places. There is one short, fairly gentle climb up into the reserve from the Clyde Walkway.
There will be various stops along the way but there are no places to purchase refreshments so please bring water or juice and snacks with you. There will an opportunity to buy tea, juice and snacks at the Waterports Centre Cafe on our return.
