Second chance for school orchards

To date, 21 of the 29 schools in the CAVLP area have been given a School Orchard pack and had sessions with one of the organisations above on planning, planting and maintaining their orchard, and now it's time for the remaining 8 to get involved too.

During the summer term, Central Scotland Green Network Trust (CSGNT), Clyde & Avon Valley Landscape Partnership (CAVLP), Clyde Valley Orchard Group, Larkhall Community Growers and the Castlebank Centre in Lanark worked together on a project celebrating the areas traditional orchards. Now that the schools have gone back, and we're heading into tree planting season again, the project is starting up again to engage the remaining schools in the CAVLP area.

To date, 21 of the 29 schools in the CAVLP area have been given a School Orchard pack and had sessions with one of the organisations above on planning, planting and maintaining their orchard, and now it's time for the remaining 8 to get involved too.

Each School Orchard pack contains 5 apples trees, along with all the resources needed to plan, plant and look after the orchard. Included in the pack is advice on all aspects of orchard management and maintenance, as well as a Teachers Resource Pack which shows how orchards can be used in the classroom for all areas of the curriculum.

Funding for the campaign has been received from Scottish Natural Heritage, The Heritage Lottery Fund through the Clyde & Avon Valley Landscape Partnership and CSGNT. More information on the campaign is available on the CSGNT or CAVLP websites - links on the right.
